Mission Statement of the Birmingham Physical Education Department:

The mission of the Physical Education Department is to provide activities that develop knowledge, skills, fitness and attitudes necessary to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.

Physical Education Statement of Philosophy:

Physical Education is that group of experiences which promotes and encourages lifelong physical activity, well-being and fitness for living, while contributing to the development of positive attitudes, teams skills, and practices.

A physically educated person has:

  • Has learned the neccessary skills to perform a variety of physical activites
  • Is physically fit
  • Participates frequently in physical activity
  • Understands and values physical activity and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle
