  • Laura Mahler has been the Principal at West Maple Elementary for the last 14 years.  She began her career as a special education teacher working with students with multiple types of disabilities.  She has worked at all levels of K-12 education; elementary, middle, and high school.  Prior to coming to Birmingham, Ms. Mahler worked in the Anchor Bay School District in Macomb County.  In addition to her duties as principal, Laura serves on multiple District Committees and can frequently be found working to mentor new and/or aspiring educational leaders.

    Laura has earned an Education Specialist degree in Administration from Oakland University, has both a Masters in Special Education, and a Bachelors Degree in K-8 General Education, from Marygrove College.  Laura and her husband, Bill, enjoy traveling as much as possible and have two grown children, one who is working in the engineering field, and the other who is finishing his undergraduate work in music performance and music education at a Michigan university.

    Jason Pesamoska is completing his first year as Assistant Principal at West Maple Elementary.  He began his career teaching Kindergarten at Bingham Farms Elementary and Beverly Elementary in Birmingham Public Schools and moved on to teach 1st grade at Harlan Elementary before coming to West Maple.  For the past seven years Mr. Pesamoska has taught grades 3 - 5 at West Maple, leaving the classroom this year to become the Assistant Principal. In addition to his duties as AP, Jason serves on many District Committees and coordinates the Elementary District Science Olympiad for Birmingham Public Schools.

    Jason has earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University and holds a Bachelors Degree in K-8 General Education with a specialized endorsement in Early Childhood Education.  Jason and his wife currently have two children, Charlotte and Elijah, who keep them busy and always smiling.  As a family they enjoy spending time at their family property Up North and playing with their Golden Retrievers Daphne and Delilah.
