Welcome to Birmingham Covington School
The Birmingham Covington Districtwide 3-8 School (BCS) is a 3-8 districtwide school of choice for families residing in the Birmingham Public School District. It is designed to offer a clear choice in educational structure and philosophy to parents/guardians and children seeking a rigorous academic challenge. BCS has a special emphasis on comprehensive science and technology instruction based on the Association for the Advancement of Science report, Project 2061, and enGauge: 21st Century Skills.

The BCS lottery was held Wednesday night, January 13th. There were 217 applications for 108 3rd Grade spots. The next steps are:

Every BCS learner will experience project-based learning with a focus on inquiry and design throughout their six years at BCS. Classes such as Engineering Technology, Engage and Thinkering Studio offer hands-on opportunities for students to demonstrate 21st Century skills both within the classroom and on a global scale. BCS Choice Hour is an expanded day devoted to enrichment and additional learning experiences based on interests and abilities. There are opportunities for students in academics, academic competitions, academic support, technology, fine arts, the arts, clubs, community service, physical fitness and sports.

BCS teachers deliver instruction in two-year academic cycles (grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8). Students typically remain with the same team of teachers for the duration of each two-year cycle allowing for continuity of instruction and familiarity with individual learning styles.

There will not be any other distributions during the week. Distributions will take place in the Front Office Vestibule. Teachers will communicate to students if there will be material to be picked up. Please adhere to mask protocols.

BPS Saturday School
We are happy to announce that the BPS Saturday School will once again be operating throughout the school year to offer academic support and tutoring for all BPS students grades K – 12. Although we are currently operating virtually as a district, BPS Saturday School takes place every Saturday (excluding holidays and breaks) throughout the school year. Saturday School is normally hosted in the media center at Berkshire Middle School, but we are now operating virtually through Zoom from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. each Saturday on the following dates:

December: 5, 12, 19
January: 9, 22, 30
February: 6, 27
March: 6, 13, 20
April: 10, 17, 24
May: 1, 8, 15, 22
The BPS Saturday School Coordinators will be working together with Groves’ NHS students as well as Oakland University student teachers to provide tutoring through Zoom and the use of “breakout rooms.” Our coordinators will be able to maneuver back and forth between breakout rooms to be able to monitor and support the tutorials. Noon Aides Needed for 2020-2021 School Year
Noon aides needed! Noon Aides are needed at BCS for the 2020-2021 School Year. Cafeteria/Playground Noon Aides monitor and supervise students eating in the cafeteria and provide consistent day-to-day care and supervision of children on the playground and cafeteria.
