2017-2017 Quarter I Choice Hour
It is time to think about your Choice Hour schedule for the Fall! Choice Hour Selection Sheets are due back on Monday, June 5. We understand that you may not know schedules for your other after school activities, but please do you best to sign up for the days you think you might be staying. Changes can be made in the Fall to your Choice Hour Schedule, but many classes will already be full. Please be sure to include any Applications that might be required for consideration in a class. Move Up Day Volunteers Needed
Move-up Day is scheduled for Monday, June 12, 9:00-10:30am. This is a great opportunity to help our new students transition to BCS. This event wouldn’t be possible without the help of current BCS parents. If you are willing to volunteer your time, sign up by clicking Move-up Day. Thank you so much for your help. We realize it's a very busy time of the year but, with your help, we can make this a very special morning for our new students and families.
8th Grade Celebration Information
This year's 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony and Farewell Celebration will take place on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. The ceremony will begin at 6:30pm, light appetizers and desserts will be served at 7:30pm, and the 8th grade (student only) party will take place from 8:00 - 10:00pm. We are in need of 7th grade parent volunteers! Anyone interested in volunteering, please sign up using the SignUp Genius link. Link to 8th Grade Celebration webpage.
Optional 7/8 Trip to Boston, October 2017 - ONLY 5 MORE NEEDED!!!
Next year’s 7/8 students will have the opportunity to travel to Boston October 6-8, 2017. For information regarding this trip, click Boston Information Registration for the trip will open at the meeting. Deadline to register is Friday, May 12. We expect the trip to fill quickly, so if your child might be interested in going on the trip, we encourage you to attend the meeting. Registration information will be emailed to all families after the information meeting.

A team from Edutopia’s Schools that Work visited BCS in October 2016 for a case study spotlighting the innovative teaching and learning at BCS. The case study, along with the five accompanying videos, was released on April 6, 2017 and can be found through a link to the article Birmingham Covington: Building a Student-Centered School. Also, the case study was featured in the ASCD SmartBrief on April 7, 2017.

The Birmingham Covington Districtwide 3-8 School (BCS) is a 3-8 districtwide school of choice for families residing in the Birmingham Public School District. It is designed to offer a clear choice in educational structure and philosophy to parents/guardians and children seeking a rigorous academic challenge. BCS has a special emphasis on comprehensive science and technology instruction based on the Association for the Advancement of Science report, Project 2061, and enGauge: 21st Century Skills.
