Welcome to LSA!
Hello LSA Families,
My name is David Brooks and I am honored to serve as the Principal at Lincoln Street Alternative. I am grateful for the opportunity to partner with both you and your child to become a small part of their journey to success in life. I firmly believe that ALL kids can learn when given equitable opportunities to succeed. I am really looking forward getting to know your child, which includes learning about their passions, interests, and both short and long term goals in life.
I grew up in Ovid, Michigan, and was a graduate of Ovid-Elsie High School. Both Ovid and Elsie are very small rural towns. My parents both instilled a strong, blue collar work ethic in me and through their hard work I was given opportunities that I will forever be grateful for. There are so many things that I will always cherish about growing up where I did; just ask me about it some time! I attended Central Michigan University for my undergraduate studies and then University of Michigan-Dearborn for my masters in Educational Leadership.
My wife, Kate, and I met at CMU and we now have two children of our own, Grace and Lucas. They certainly keep us busy and we wouldn't have it any other way. My wife is the rock of our family and she is a special education pre-school teacher in Garden City Public Schools. She is also an incredible mom and partner in life. I couldn't do what I do without her love and support.
Before coming to Birmingham Public Schools in 2013, I had opportunities to teach in Saginaw, Immokalee (located in Florida) and Detroit. In 2013, I joined Berkshire Middle School as a math teacher. I was then given the opportunity in 2016 to serve as both the Berkshire Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. As of January, 2020, I am now serving as the Principal of LSA and the Principal of BPS Virtual Learning.
If you ever want to talk more about your child, LSA, virtual learning, or anything else, feel free to contact me.
