    2022 Career Write Essay Contest

    “Oakland Schools K-12 Career Readiness Department is sponsoring a student essay contest developed to promote awareness, exploration, and preparation associated with five career pathways: Information Technology, Health, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction and TMLE (Transportation, Mobility, Logistics, Energy).  There are three entry levels based on the students grade: 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

    Grade 9-12 Division  

    Writing Prompt: Explore an ethical dilemma that is relevant to one of the following career areas of interest: Information Technology, Health, Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, or TMLE (Transportation, Mobility, Logistics, Energy).  The ethical issue(s) should be described and include how the issue(s) are affecting or have affected a community, and your recommendations for potential solutions.  

    Must have a sponsoring teacher; 

    Essay will not include any identifiable information in it - like your name, school name;

    Essay needs to include a title; 

    1000 words or less, excluding title and any references;

    Standard format including title, introduction, body, and summary/conclusion;

    Microsoft Word, or Google Doc, 12-point font, double-spaced;

    You need to save the file as a PDF with the file name being the title of your essay

    Page numbers in footer, starting with first page;

    If resources/references are used, follow MLA format for citations.  The works cited page will not count toward the word count; 

    Entries must be original work, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere;

    Students may not submit more than one essay; submissions of entries authored by multiple individuals will not be considered.
