Deadline: November 18 at 4:00 pm
General Reflections Information
- The purpose and goal of the program is participation in and appreciation for the arts. Although organized in a contest format, the goal of Reflections is to encourage participation. Students are celebrated for their participation at every level.
- Categories: Students may submit an entry in any of the following six arts areas: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, or Film Production.
- Divisions: Participation in the Reflections Program is organized by school grade. The five grade divisions are as follows:
- Primary – Preschool – Grade 2
- Intermediate – Grades 3-5
- Middle School – Grades 6-8
- High School – Grades 9-12
- Special Artist – The National PTA Special Artist Division is an option for students with disabilities, who receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504, to ensure that every student has the chance to be part of the National PTA Reflections® program.
- Artwork Evaluation/Judging: Judges are asked to evaluate and score entries according to: how well the art relates to the theme (40%), creativity (30%), and technical aspects of the medium (30%). This means that a well-developed concept is more important than technique. Click here to read how judges are asked to determine their scores.
- Tiered Judging: The Reflections Program is structured for PTAs to recognize students at the local, district, state, and national PTA levels.
