  • 2019.2020 Approved Charter Bus Transportation

    This is a list of the current motorcoach companies that have been approved for hire by Birmingham Public Schools for trips as allowed under our transportation services contract. Except as otherwise notified or approved, all field trips should be submitted to Durham School Services first. As the district provider contracted for the provision of transportation services, they are granted the first opportunity to provide field trip services for your school. If they are unable to fulfill the trip, they will notify you. You may choose to change the date of the trip, alter the trip arrangements or to contact one of these companies to price out their services.

    Only these companies have met the standards for licensure, insurance, federally mandated drug and alcohol testing and training, and have met the review standards of Birmingham Public Schools Operations. Without regard to who is booking your field trip or making the arrangements, these are the only approved bus companies for use by Birmingham Public Schools. These companies have been advised of their status and have been notified that they are not allowed to sub-contract and BPS trip - other than to another company on this list.   • Staff Workshop Conference Form

    We have updated our district Travel-Conference Form to better detail the costs involved, funding source, rationale for attending, impact to others, as well as explaining the method for sharing with others.  You will also notice a rubric in the OFFICE USE ONLY section to rate the merits of the workshop/conference.  Depending on the overall cost of the request, this would be reviewed/approved by the Teaching and Learning Department, Deputy Superintendent, and/or the Assistant Superintendent for Business Services.

     The employee is still required to get their immediate supervisor’s signature to tentatively approve the workshop or conference before it is sent to the Teaching and Learning office.

    All requests for workshops or conferences (of any size/cost) are required to use this form.  This form is not intended for periodic county meetings (i.e. Oakland Schools).

    Blended Field Trip Permission Form
    Field trips and excursions are an essential part of the blended class experience. Students focus on self selected topics and projects to explore with mentors outside the class, and/or they may visit museums or locations that will provide them with rich research, data and experiences. Missing classes for these excursions is never taken lightly and is monitored by the blended teacher. Your input as a parent and teacher will help the blended teacher as he/she supervises students and their activities.
    In the comment section, please communicate any tests or essential activities that the student will be missing by going on this field trip. It will help to determine the potential opportunity costs associated with the attending. The final decision rests with the parent and the blended teacher.
