  • BCS Open House – Sunday, December 2, 1:00-3:00pm

    OPen House Parents, students and community members are invited to explore our unique educational community with an emphasis on science, technology and 21st century learning skills. This is also a great opportunity to meet BCS students, staff members and current parents.   • 8th Grade High School Visit November 19

    8th Grade students will be visiting Groves High School on November 19. Although the visits are not mandatory, they provide a great opportunity to become familiar with the building, staff, and programs at both high schools.

    Please have your child return the high school visit permission slip linked below to their Academic Lab teacher by Friday, November 16 at 9am.

  • Open House Volunteers Needed

    BCS will be holding its community Open House on Sunday, December 2, 1:00-3:00.  This event would not be possible without the amazing support of the BCS families.  If you are able to help, please sign up at OH Volunteers.

  • Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences

    Be sure to plan ahead so you don’t miss PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES!  On Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20, BCS and all elementary schools in the district will host parent-teacher conferences. That said, Thanksgiving is also the same week. Unfortunately, teachers will not be able to accommodate rescheduled conferences due to early vacations, so please plan to attend your child’s conference on Monday or Tuesday during the 1:00-4:00 PM or 5:00-8:00 PM time frames.  Click here for the letter, specific information, and links to sign up for conferences.

    Please support the BCS Destination Imagination (DI) Program by submitting one of your family’s favorite recipes by submitting it at this link: The recipes will be collated and made into a beautiful spiral bound edition of the One and Only BCS Community Cookbook. These books will be on sale by late fall, or you can preorder your copy when you submit a recipe! We’re looking for fun recipes from BCS students, families and staff members.   • BCS Proud Dads Snow Club

    Learn about 2018-19 Snow Club by attending the Parent Informational Meeting on Monday, November 12 at 6:30pm and by reading the 2018-19 Snow Club Information Handout. More information on the Snow Club webpage.

    Application Procedure

    ·       The Snow Club will accept 56 skiers/snowboarders; these spots will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.

    ·       We will pass out application packets after the Parent Information meeting on Monday, November 12th, 6:30 pm.

    ·       Applications will also be available in the main office starting Nov. 12th or on the BCS website.

    ·       We will begin to accept applications on Monday, December 3rd at 8:00 a.m. on a table located in the main hallway. Each application will be stamped with the date and time received.

    ·       When all 56 spots are filled we will waitlist applications in order of receipt of application. We will notify any additional applicants by email/phone as soon as possible if more room is available on the bus.

  • Saturday School @ Berkshire

    In partnership with the Birmingham African American Family Network, Birmingham Public Schools provides tutoring for students who need help in any grade level, and in any academic area. It is hosted in the media center at Berkshire Middle School from 9am - 11am. All K-12 BPS student and parents are welcome to join. For more information see their website @:

  • Outdoor Recess in the Wet Weather

    Now that the Spring weather is settling in (mostly), please remember to send coats, boots, and maybe extra socks to school with your children. We will go outside for recess every day, weather permitting.

    The Birmingham Covington Districtwide 3-8 School (BCS) is a 3-8 districtwide school of choice for families residing in the Birmingham Public School District. It is designed to offer a clear choice in educational structure and philosophy to parents/guardians and children seeking a rigorous academic challenge. BCS has a special emphasis on comprehensive science and technology instruction based on the Association for the Advancement of Science report, Project 2061, and enGauge: 21st Century Skills.
