• English 10A Daily Agenda This will provide information about what happened in class each day, the homework assignment due dates, learning targets and success criteria.

    The focus of this course is to develop reading, writing, language and critical thinking skills through the study of texts that represent diverse voices in American Literature.


    Unit 1-“Landscape: The Spirit of Place: We will read and study The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Native American poetry, the Transcendentalist essays of Emerson and Thoreau, and Robert Frost Poetry; writing will focus on the argumentative literary analysis essay.

    Unit2- “Individualism: The Journey Within”: Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz; writing focus on the narrative techniques applied to both the essay and poetry.

    Independent Reading: All students will be required to have an independently chosen book to read in class every day.

    Applied Grammar: We will study grammatical sentence structures and apply them to original narrative writing to learn to vary sentence structures and enhance writing style.
