    Birmingham Public Schools High School Guidelines for Virtual Learning

    The purpose of this document is to assist teachers in the expectations for virtual learning. It is our desire to provide consistency and high expectations for all students. These guidelines will be regularly assessed and adjusted as needed as new circumstances and understandings present themselves.

    Building Hours

    Effective Tuesday, September 1st the following fob access times will be put back into place for the 2020-2021 school year.

    • High School Staff– 5:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
    • Middle School Staff – 6:05 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. (For access control BCS is considered Middle School Staff access)
    • Elementary School Staff 6:40 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

    Online Resources for Teachers during COVID19 Closure

    Please follow this link for resources from the Teaching & Learning department at the EAC for helpful information regarding development and support of online learning.


    Teachers, please consider registering for courses in the Pathways Pilot.

    Many courses are starting in January. There are currently 11 courses available and approximately 8-10 more courses will be added in the near future. Be sure to check out the course catalog available in the Home Tab of The Learning Center for course details. There are online, face-to-face, and blended courses available!

    Participate on your own, or consider asking a colleague or colleagues to join you. Feedback from the pilot will help shape future professional learning and incentives.

    Pathway credits earn $30 per credit, with an additional $90 per micro-credential available after completing the course for teachers working under the BEA Teacher Contract.
