Quality physical education is an integral part of the academic routine at Birmingham Covington School. The primary focus of our program is to equip students with the fundamental skills, attitudes, and behaviors essential to safe, effective movement and participation in lifelong activities. Swimming is a unique part of the physical education curriculum. Third and fourth graders learn basic skills and water safety, while fifth through eighth graders review these skills and participate in swim conditioning, games, and aquatic activities. Our students are challenged in an active, caring, supportive and nonthreatening atmosphere. Through our program, they will learn to create a quality lifestyle that encourages skill development, health-related fitness, cognitive concepts, positive social interaction, and emotional development.
