Meet the Director
Jamii Hitchcock, Ph.D. has served as an educator and administrator for the past 21 years. She has leadership experience at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels in Birmingham Public Schools. She began her career as a teacher and soon after became dean of students at Novi High School and assistant principal at Seaholm High School, both annually recognized as top high schools in the country. She previously served as the principal of a K-8 International Baccalaureate World School, which was one of seven schools in the nation to receive Title I funds with both the primary and middle years programmes on one campus.
Until she was appointed to the Director of Character Education, Diversity and Equity position, Jamii served as principal of Beverly Elementary School, Achievement Gap Committee co-chair, Minority Student Achievement Network Research Practitioner Council district representative, district African American parent network liaison and returning facilitator for Closing the Achievement Gap: Strategies for Excellence with Equity and Family Engagement in Education: Creating Effective Home and School Partnerships for Student Success institutes at Harvard University. She has also been trained in the RULER Approach from the Center of Emotional Intelligence at Yale University.
Jamii completed a B.A. in English Literature and M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy. She earned an Ed.S. and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Oakland University.
