PEMBROKE: Starbooks claim '25 Battle of the Books crown

Battle of the Books, an annual reading competition that’s sponsored by the Baldwin Public Library for fourth and fifth graders throughout Birmingham Public Schools, challenges students to read six selected books and compete in team-based trivia contests. The friendly competition aims to foster a love of reading while encouraging students to explore literature beyond their comfort zones.

SEAHOLM: Six among MHSAA Scholar-Athlete finalists

Seaholm High School was prominently represented when the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced the finalists for the 2024-2025 Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards. Of the 120 student athletes listed, a half dozen of them were Maples – more than any other school in the state.

Applications Open for BPS Student Ambassador Program

Birmingham Public Schools is seeking eight ninth-grade students to join the Student Ambassador Program for the 2026-2027 school year. Students from Seaholm, Groves, Lincoln Street Academy, and International Academy students who live within the BPS attendance area are encouraged to apply.

Student Ambassadors help elevate student voices across the district. They may serve on staff hiring committees, participate in school improvement planning and represent students at Birmingham Board of Education meetings. Ambassadors also develop leadership and communication skills while working with students and district leaders to make a meaningful difference in their school community.

Students selected for the program remain ambassadors throughout high school and do not need to reapply each year. Learn more about the Student Ambassador Program.
