Introducing a better way to stay connected with BPS

Dear Birmingham Public Schools families,

This fall, Birmingham Public Schools is changing the way we keep you informed to make our communications easier to follow and act on.

Starting today for the district, and on September 3rd for schools, here’s what to expect in your inbox:

• A weekly Bulletin: Short and scannable, focused on what you need to know for the week ahead, including key dates, deadlines, upcoming events, reminders and updates. It will arrive on the same day and at the same time every week, so you always know when to look for it.
• A regular Newsletter: Published monthly or twice a month, depending on the level of the school. These are the stories worth savoring, including student and staff achievements, event highlights, celebrations, and the moments that show what makes BPS special.

Why the change?

Families made it clear to us that it was sometimes difficult to find information they needed. Separating the two types of communication means you can scan the Bulletin in seconds and tap straight through to whatever applies to your family instead of hunting for a deadline buried in a long email.

Every Bulletin item will also be automatically posted to a dedicated Announcements page, where you can filter by topic and search past updates. This page will keep growing as more information is added throughout the school year. Even if you delete an email, the information is always only a click away. You can view the current week’s announcements or check the archive for older ones.

Similarly, all news will live on the website, including the homepage and the district and school news overview pages, and will be sent to your inbox in the Newsletter. You can enjoy all the great things happening in our schools and across the district when you have time to fully take in the news.

We hope this makes staying connected with the district and your child’s school simpler and a little more enjoyable.
