Dear Birmingham Public Schools Community,

As the proud Superintendent of Birmingham Public Schools, I am thrilled to extend my warmest welcome to each and every one of you. It is an honor and a privilege to serve this remarkable community known for innovation and high academic achievement.

My journey in education began as a dedicated classroom teacher at the elementary and middle school levels. I had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities. This experience shaped my understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that our students face, and it ignited a lifelong commitment to creating equitable, inclusive, and excellent educational experiences for all.

As my career progressed, I transitioned into various leadership roles, many of them in this District.  For the last 16 years, I have served the BPS community as principal of Harlan Elementary, Groves High School, and Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning and Inclusion before taking on my current role. These experiences have equipped me with a holistic view of the educational landscape, from the classroom to the boardroom. Throughout my career, I have always maintained a steadfast commitment to fostering innovation, nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring that every student has the support and resources they need to thrive.

My family has directly benefited from the excellent education provided by BPS. As an alumna, my daughter's strong foundation has carried her into adulthood.

Most importantly, I am passionate about children and their achievements, both academically and socially. It is my strongest desire to work collaboratively with parents and staff to continue the great work that is the hallmark of a BPS education. I look forward to carrying on the BPS tradition of high expectations and stellar achievement.  Together, we will continue to make Birmingham Public Schools a success!

Fondly,

— Dr. Embekka Roberson
