Kendall Dorfman and Abigail Klenke were recently named recipients of the 2025 National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. — A pair of Berkshire Middle School students have been named recipients of the 2025 National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Outstanding Achievement Award, placing them among only 17 middle schoolers statewide to receive this annual honor.

Kendall Dorfman and Abigail Klenke were recently recognized from thousands of applicants nationwide for their exemplary demonstration of the five NJHS pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. The two eighth graders had to complete a series of essays and submit recommendation letters to qualify for the award.

“These outstanding young scholars represent the very best of Birmingham Public Schools,” Superintendent Dr. Embekka Roberson said. “Their commitment to academic excellence and service to others sets an inspiring example for students across our district.”

The prestigious award includes a $500 college savings plan for each recipient. Nationwide, only 500 students receive this particular recognition annually.

“I’m incredibly proud of Kendall and Abigail,” said Jason Clinkscale, Berkshire Middle School principal. “Day after day, they demonstrate remarkable leadership and character beyond their years. This recognition affirms what our school community already knows about these exceptional students.”

The NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to acknowledge middle school students who consistently demonstrate extraordinary commitment to their studies and communities while encouraging continued excellence in these areas.
