Birmingham Public Schools reaffirms its distinction of being among the best overall public school districts in Michigan, as determined by the results of the M-STEP/PSAT assessments conducted during the previous school year. BPS is listed fifth in the state and first within Oakland County.

The test results reflect the percentage of students who achieved advanced or proficient status for the 2023-2024 academic year. M-STEP is an annual state test utilized to assess and track the progression at the school and district level.

"Over the past three years, we have concentrated on enhancing mathematics and literacy in grades K-8," Superintendent Dr. Embekka Roberson said. "Our efforts have included implementing a new mathematics curriculum, conducting a literacy review, and strengthening our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in elementary and middle school. I am extremely proud of our talented students, exceptional staff, and strong partnerships with parents and the community. With our strategic plan as our guide, we are working together to continue Birmingham Public Schools' longstanding tradition of educational excellence.
