MHSAA: Slazinski chosen as scholarship recipient

Seaholm multi-sport star among 32 student-athletes recognized for academic and athletic excellence, earning a $2,000 scholarship from the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).

LANSING – Seaholm senior Katherine Slazinski was recently selected as one of 13 student-athletes from Class A member schools to receive a scholarship through the MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award program for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Slazinski, along with the other 32 award recipients, will be recognized and honored during the MHSAA boys basketball finals at the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University. Each honoree will receive a 2,000 scholarship. 

She has participated athletically in golf, tennis and volleyball for the Maples. Slazinski, a tennis team captain, earned all-state status in tennis the past two seasons in helping Seaholm claim the state crown in 2023 and a 2022 runner-up finish. In addition, she has earned AP Scholar with Distinction and National Merit Scholarship Commended Student recognition. 

Other notable extracurricular honors include: 

  • Two-time state DECA qualifier
  • Three-time National Honor Society member
  • Two-time Spanish National Honor Society member

To qualify for the annual scholarship award, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) GPA and have previously earned a varsity letter in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament. Other requirements for the applicants included showing active participation in other school and community activities, and producing an essay on the importance of sportsmanship in educational athletics.
