BPS librarian tabbed as featured educator for new MDE promo
LANSING – The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) recently announced the release of the latest #proudMIeducator campaign featuring West Maple resident librarian Carrie Betts.
The #proudMIeducator campaign highlights the amazing work that Michigan educators do. MDE hopes to inspire others to dedicate themselves to a career in education after hearing these stories.
West Maple was named the National School Library of the Year by the American Association of School Librarians in 2023. This National School Library Award marks just the third time since the award was established in 1963 that a Michigan school district has earned the prestigious honor of recognizing school libraries as a unique and essential part of the school learning community.
“Ms. Betts exemplifies the qualities of a #proudMIeducator,” State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice said. “I appreciate her innovative library programs at West Maple Elementary School. Shout-outs to her, West Maple Elementary, and Birmingham Public Schools for this national recognition. Michigan educators across the state strive daily to make a positive difference in the lives of their students.”
Since 2016, the #proudMIeducator series has featured educators and supporters of Michigan educators who share their passion for education.
