Mrs. Steward
Hello! Welcome to room 109! My name is Jessica Steward. I am one of the teachers in Harlan’s Autism Spectrum Disorder program. I have experience teaching in center-based ASD classrooms ranging from middle school and elementary. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Special Education with my endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorders and my Master of Arts in Special Education from Saginaw Valley State University. Growing up I spent many years helping my mom in her classroom working with her students with autism which grew into my passion and path in life.
I believe in creating an inclusive classroom environment where my students feel strong, loved, smart and amazing. We start every day with our morning affirmations and we carry those affirmations with us each school day. In room 109 we focus on creating a safe and welcoming community within our classroom and school to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in working with parents as an integral part of our team and working together to help our students grow and thrive.
When I’m not teaching you can find me with my family staying busy! I have a 1 year old daughter and 9 year old son with my husband Shawn. During my free time you can find me outdoors. I love to spend time Up North and on a lake! I’m an avid runner and am working towards running my first ultra marathon. My favorite color is yellow and I love ALL things rainbows and unicorns.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!
