  • The Birmingham Virtual Academy Elementary Program offers students the opportunity to engage with the rigorous Birmingham curriculum under the instruction of award-winning Birmingham Public School teachers. Students will receive a high-quality education in an environment that is most conducive to their individual needs. Teachers will engage students through live lessons, collaborative learning experiences, and activities that build classroom culture and support social-emotional development.       • A: Birmingham teachers will be teaching all classes.

    • Q: What is my role as a parent or guardian?

      • A: Due to the young age of our K-5 students, parents and guardians will work in cooperation with the classroom teacher to support their child.

    • Q: What happens if there is another interruption with school due to the pandemic, quarantining, etc.?

      • A: Birmingham Virtual Academy students will have a consistent schedule of instruction and will not need to change their learning plan or teacher due to the pandemic, quarantining, etc..

      • A: Birmingham Virtual Academy students will be equipped with the same tools that the in-person students utilize.

    • Q: If a student has an IEP or 504 plan, can they still enroll in the Birmingham Virtual Academy?

      • A: Yes. All IEP and 504 plan supports will still be provided for students

    • Q: Will students eligible for free or reduced lunch still receive meals?

      • A: Yes. BPS food services will provide these meals to eligible students.

    • Q: Will students receive the same Birmingham Public Schools curriculum as students attending in person?

      • A: Yes. All Birmingham Virtual Academy courses taught by Birmingham Public School teachers will follow district curriculum, standards, and benchmarks.

    • Q: Are students still able to take asynchronous classes with a third party online provider?

      • A: Yes. All students are eligible to participate with a third party online course provider.

    • Q: For current Birmingham Covington School students: Will students be able to return to BCS after the 2021-2022 school year?

      • A: Yes. Students are eligible to return to in person learning at Birmingham Covington School for the 2022-2023 school year.
