    Bylaw Review

    The PTAs for the Birmingham school district are reviewing and revising, where appropriate, their respective bylaws. The Birmingham Covington School (BCS) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Clearinghouse has completed its review, and now invites its members to review the document. The review period will last for thirty (30) days. Please note that paragraphs designated with a number sign (#) are uniform provisions that appear in all bylaws of the PTAs for the  Birmingham school district.  The bylaws can be accessed at this link.

    Direct Donation Request

    The BCS PTA Executive Committee is requesting your help!  Through direct donations, our PTA is able to support the incredible instruction and hands-on learning that our BCS teachers desire for our kids.  Our PTA dollars at work include:

    • Classroom iPads

    Last spring, we approved a budget that anticipated direct donations from our parents as well as income generated from the annual BCS Blast.  This budget is based on the requests that BCS teachers submit to us each year; their requests are for items that enhance the learning experiences of our children in the classroom.

    Currently, we are about $10,000 short in direct donations.  With the move to online registration, we expected a bit of a decrease as we typically received most of our donations on "in-person" registration days.  This year we have provided an option for donations to be made electronically through MySchoolAnywhere as well as a paper link (links below).  Would you consider making a donation today?

    We appreciate the donations that have already been made.  We know that our BCS teachers are hoping that we can grant their requests, and it is our hope that we can support the amazing instruction and opportunities they desire for all of our kids!

     PTA Promise to Participate The BCS PTA welcomes you to the 2017-2018 school year. Whether this is your first year at BCS or you have been here for many years, we are glad that you are part of the BCS family. The BCS PTA is an active organization that plans, organizes, and funds many programs, activities, events, and technology used every day in our students’ classrooms.     To update your directory information for the 2016-2017 school year if you are a current family, you will need to request an email link to your family information. Please enter your last name and email address, when prompted. When the email from BCS Directory Information arrives, please scroll to the bottom and click on the link. This will then let you update your directory information. This link will allow you to update for the current school year.

    Please review and make any necessary changes. If you have a new student coming to BCS in the fall, you will have the opportunity to add his or her information at that time. If you have any questions, please email

    Programs of the BCS Parent-Teacher Association

    The central goals of our parent/BCS community support group are to increase student achievement, to promote the welfare of children and youth, to increase the level of parent involvement, and to enhance the communication process between the school and the BCS community.

    At BCS, parents, students and staff join together to specialize in tasks that are essential for effective school governance. Our structure promotes effective coordination of efforts and the development of leadership opportunities. We encourage all parents to participate and volunteer at some level in an area of their interest and embrace any individual wishing to pursue a leadership role.

    The BCS PTA Clearinghouse is comprised of everyone in the BCS Community. The Clearinghouse meets monthly to provide an opportunity for the individual committees to review their activities with the larger community. Meetings also provide an open forum enabling parents and students to bring issues and concerns to the forefront. Both the Principal and Assistant Principal attend the meetings and are available to answer questions.

    The Management Committee is comprised our elected officers - our Co-Chairs, Co-Treasurers, and Co-Secretaries - and the various Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs. The Management Committee is charged with making recommendations to the Clearinghouse on important matters including preparation of the annual budget and the development of procedural policies. The Management Committee meets bi-annually or as needed to meet its responsibilities. The PTSA Clearinghouse Co-Chairs meet with the Administration regularly to review and discuss the issues of the day.

    PTA Clearinghouse Committees

    There are 14 standing PTSA Clearinghouse Committees. Generally these committees meet on a regular basis to address topics related to the specific needs of our school community. They undertake a variety of projects throughout the school year and offer our entire community a host of volunteer opportunities and options for involvement in school activities.  The PTSA menus list and link to each of our committee web pages.

    All parents and teachers are invited to attend our PTA Meetings. Meetings will start promptly and will last 60-90 minutes. If there is a specific topic you would like to add to the meeting agenda, please email the Co-Chairs at a week before the meeting and we will do our best to accommodate you.
