At Birmingham Public Schools, we believe every child deserves a confident and caring start. Our Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs nurture curiosity, creativity, and community—helping children build the skills, friendships, and confidence to thrive.

Junior Kindergarten offers families a bridge between preschool and kindergarten, providing an extra year of growth for children with birthdays between June 1 and December 1. Some children in this range may be eligible for either Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten, giving families the flexibility to choose the best fit for their student's readiness and development.

Eligibility: Turning 5 years old
