Junior Kindergarten (4+yrs)
What is Junior Kindergarten (JK)?
All children develop at different rates, so we believe that families should have options when considering the ideal setting for their child's initial K-12 school experience.
Junior Kindergarten is an ideal option for families with kindergarten-eligible students, born between June 1-Dec. 1, 2019, seeking to benefit from extra time for their child to grow and mature. The program bridges the critical transition between home and school by offering an extra year of learning, emphasizing academic, social, emotional and physical skill development.
Children entering this program will advance into regular kindergarten as usual following one full academic year in junior kindergarten.
Which schools offer a JK program?
Beverly Elementary, Harlan Elementary, Pierce Elementary, Quarton Elementary, Bingham Farms and West Maple Elementary have been designated as the primary locations for the 2024-2025 cohort.
Greenfield Elementary and Pembroke Elementary will each serve as feeder schools for the program.
Feeder-school logistics are as followed:
- Greenfield will feed into Bingham Farms
- Pembroke will feed into Harlan
