SUPERINTENDENT'S STUDENT AMBASSADORS

Our Superintendent Student Ambassador program was introduced in 2024. It aims to provide high school students with meaningful leadership experiences while serving as a valuable resource for the Superintendent and District leadership. To be eligible, applicants must apply and be a current high school student. If selected, students will have the opportunity to continue in the program until they graduate from high school.

Dear Prospective Student Ambassador,

I am thrilled to expand our inaugural Student Ambassador cohort. Our Student Ambassador program is designed to elevate student voices in BPS. Community is a core value in the district's strategic plan, and our students play an important part in our community through listening and active problem-solving.

Student Ambassadors have the unique opportunity to serve on staff hiring committees, participate in school improvement planning alongside teaching and administrative leaders, and expand their representation through rotating participation in Birmingham Board of Education meetings. Our current Student Ambassadors have proven instrumental by listening to the students' needs and advocating for the initiation of "Cookies and Conversation” student forums for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Beyond acquiring communication, leadership, and networking skills, our Student Ambassadors make meaningful contributions to their school community. Ambassadors connect with diverse student leaders, gain insights into district leadership, and affect positive change. The learning opportunities that come with this role are exciting and invaluable.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2025-2026 cohort. The application launches each fall and closes on October 1.

The Student Ambassador Program includes students from Seaholm, Groves, and Lincoln Street Academy, spanning grades 9 through 12. Once selected, students remain in the program for the duration of their high school years—there is no need to reapply annually. International Academy students within the Birmingham School District are welcome to apply.

Each year, the largest number of new Ambassadors (~5) typically comes from the incoming freshman class. While upperclassmen are welcome to apply, available spots for grades 10–12 are very limited.

You can also help by spreading the word and encouraging other potential candidates.

Thank you for considering this exciting opportunity, and I look forward to receiving your application.

Regards,

Dr. Embekka Roberson
Superintendent
