Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Nancy Roth
My name is Nancy Roth and the 2018-2019 school year will be my 7th year teaching 3rd grade at West Maple Elementary. I love West Maple and the Birmingham Public Schools so much that my own children attend with me!
I received my training from Michigan State University where I majored in elementary education with minors in history and English. I did my student teaching in a 3rd/4th grade classroom and then started my teaching career as a 2nd grade teacher in Pontiac, Michigan. I taught there for three years and then moved to Warren, MI where I taught 3rd grade for three years. During this time, I received my Master's Degree in elementary literacy instruction from Walden University. For the next five years, I worked as an instructional support teacher; spending part of my time coaching teachers and the rest of my day supporting struggling readers in small groups. During this time, I also went back to school and received a second Master's Degree in special education. I then moved to West Maple Elementary in 2012 and have been teaching 3rd grade since then.
I think that 3rd grade is a special year in a child's education because students develop a lot of independence, develop a responsibility for their own education, and become life-long learners. I love seeing how much growth my third graders make!
When I'm not at school, I love to read, travel, and spend time with my family.
