Seaholm High School named National Blue Ribbon School
On Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 the U.S. Department of Education announced the 2018 National Blue Ribbon Schools, which included Ernest W. Seaholm High School among its recipients. Seaholm was selected as an Exemplary High Performing School, a status given to the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments and nationally normed tests.
“Seaholm students have a strong history of high academic achievement,” said Interim Superintendent John Silveri. “The National Blue Ribbon status is a coveted recognition and speaks not only to the dedication of our staff members and students, but also to our community for their support and commitment to partnering with us in education.”
The NBRS award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Seaholm is among 300 public schools in the country to receive this recognition. Seaholm is one of 2 high schools in Michigan to receive the honor this year.
“We are honored as a school community to be named a National Blue Ribbon School and to celebrate the honor with our school community,” said Principal Kyle Hall. “Earning the NBRS award does not mean our work stops here. As a high-achieving school, we will continue to work towards our goal of educational excellence for every student. At Seaholm, however, faculty and students work together to establish a culture and climate that extends our mission beyond academic excellence to nurture growth in character—to think with reflection, act with compassion and perform with honor both in and out of the classroom. ”
Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. The Department invites National Blue Ribbon School nominations from the top education official in all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Department of Defense Education Activity and the Bureau of Indian Education. Private schools are nominated by The Council for American Private Education (CAPE).
