West Maple is once again recognized as a National School of Character!

Each year, Character.org and its state affiliates certify schools and districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development with a positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, school climate and their communities. Character.org evaluates schools and districts selected as State Schools of Character for consideration for national certification as National Schools of Character.

Through an in-depth and rigorous evaluation process, these schools were found to be exemplary models in character development. Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, a framework to assist schools in providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.

Once a school is recognized, the designation lasts for 3 years. West Maple is one of the schools maintaining this honor, through the dedication of staff, students, and families, after being recognized previously.

Here is a quote from the Sheril Morgan, Schools of Character Director from West Maple's official letter of recognition:

"What a phenomenal accomplishment! Our evaluators were very impressed with your team’s hard work and dedication. It is quite a feat to be named a National School of Character more than once. It took a great deal of commitment and teamwork to continue this legacy of character development, and you should be celebrated!"

This is indeed something we should celebrate, and for which every single West Maple student, family, and staff member should feel extremely proud! As a school and District we are setting a standard, not just for academic excellence, but for a type of excellence that looks beyond oneself, intent on making the world a better place.

Thank you for your part in earning and maintaining our National School of Character designation!

Keep up the great work, West Maple Wolves!

  • West Maple Elementary:  engaging and empowering all learners

    for lifelong success.

Welcome to West Maple Elementary School!

We are proud of our success in creating an exciting, caring, challenging and happy place for our students to learn.  We have a strong, collaborative relationship with our parents and PTA.  Our goal is to work together to provide the students and faculty with a great variety of resources with which to learn and to enhance learning experiences for all students.

West Maple has access to extensive and varied technology, which is imbedded into the curriculum in all subject areas.  Students have opportunities to develop academic skills at a high level, personal confidence, effective group and communication skills and an awareness of the world around them.  West Maple is a community that promotes collaboration, respect and inquiry in a safe environment.  We have a strong commitment to education our students about our environment and the needs of others less fortunate.  We ask that our students conduct themselves responsibly, honestly, with kindness and respect.

If you are a parent of our community, and have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  If you are considering having your child attend West Maple, I welcome you to visit our school for a personal tour. Please contact the school office, by calling 248.851.2667 to set up an appointment.
